It was black women who began #BlackLivesMatter.

Black women called for an NFL boycott 3 YEARS AGO.

It was a black woman who organized 40,000 people to rally in Boston after Charlottesville.

Entire WNBA teams have been taking a knee since last year.

A Black woman has raised over $40,000 in Houston that has been put directly into the hands of other black women in need.

Black women are trying to save us all. Black women always have been.

And at the same time, Black people are 20% more likely to experience serious mental health problems than the general population.  Black mothers have a 38% rate of postpartum depression, anxiety, or OCD.

I see Black women every day working to make this world a better place. They do it in their homes, with their children, on the streets, in the courts, in politics. I see them writing us a new future and singing us a new world, I see them giving and giving and giving.

And I see the toll. I see the toll it takes on all of us.

So what do we do about it? How can we learn to take better care of ourselves while we care for the whole world? I don’t think that any one of us has all the answers, but I do know that all of us have an answer. And so I have created The SelfCare In Color Virtual Retreat.

SCIC is a week-long, online retreat where we can stop the world and focus on ourselves. It is a safe and brave space for us to tell the truth and reclaim our health, our peace, and our joy.  Each day from October 16–21, 2017, we will have presentations by Black women who are experts in self-care, physical health, mental health, and spiritual health.

On Monday, Tara Pringle Jefferson, the creator of The Bloom Beautifully self-care subscription box, will present on what self-care means for Black women. She talks about reclaiming our righteous anger and tapping into our joy.

On Tuesday, we have an interview with Jasmine Banks, a licensed therapist and mental health activist. She’s answering questions about how therapy can help us, how we know if we need it, where to find a therapist, and what to ask to make sure we are getting the right care for us.

On Wednesday, Melissa Toler breaks down why she shut down her wellness-coaching practice and how Black women can get free of the diet and beauty industry. If you have ever been on a diet in your life, you have got to watch this presentation.

On Thursday, Micky ScottBey Jones takes us all to church. Micky is helping us find the divine in ourselves and connect to the faiths of our foremothers. She speaks straight to your soul, no matter what your religious affiliation is. And yes, there is sacred twerking involved.

On Friday, Danielle Faust has a message for all the Black mamas. She is closing out the week with a focus on keeping our mamas healthy and strong, not only because we are the foundation of our family and community—but simply because we are human beings who deserve care.

Saturday we will wrap up our week with a LIVE speaker roundtable. It will be the best girlfriend chat of the year and our audience is invited to ask questions and join in.

Let’s take a week together to shift the focus to ourselves. We can fill our cups to overflowing. We can connect to ourselves and to each other. Join us for a week of pure black girl magic.
